Ettore Sottsass’s Svincolo floor lamp was included in Studio Alchimia’s first Bau.Haus exhibition in 1979. “Svincolo” refers to the entrances and exits of Italian highways, which at the time often featured street lights looming high overhead. While its style foreshadows the Memphis designs to come a few years later, this floor lamp can be interpreted as a totem to travel—and we know Sottsass loved to travel!
