Exhibited at MoMA’s epochal 1972 exhibition Italy: The New Domestic Landscape, this modular shelving system by Paolo Lomazzi, Donato D'Urbino and Jonathan De Pas takes the Lego as its inspiration. The designers used the small child’s toy in an exaggerated adult scale and color palette. Individual bricks and shelves can be combined in various formations. The example shown in Different Tendencies includes 43 pieces that create a two-tiered bookshelf, but the pieces retain their original modularity and can be carefully disassembled for other uses.
