Gae Aulenti

An architecture graduate from the Polytechnic University of Milan, Aulenti was a leading figure in Italian design, and one of few women. She became an art director for the iconic Casabella magazine in 1955 and from the late 1950s, began designing furniture and lighting for the likes of Knoll, Poltronova, Artemide, FontanaArte and others. Her work was included in the 1972 exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art New York Italy: The New Domestic Landscape. Later in her career she designed the interior space of the Musee d’Orsay.
