Sean Gerstley

Sean in his studio

Sean Gerstley is a Philadelphia-based artist and designer working at the intersection of sculpture and the domestic. A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, he uses clay as his primary medium to build a dynamic ceramic language of slab- and coil-constructed forms, marked by pinched surfaces and vividly expressive glazes.

In 2020, Gerstley debuted his first series of earthenware furniture with Superhouse, marking a pivotal moment in his practice. Since then, his work has been exhibited widely across the United States and internationally, including presentations in Paris, Milan, London, New York, Los Angeles, Miami, and Philadelphia, with exhibitions at venues such as Commonweal Gallery, Emma Scully Gallery, Air Mattress Gallery, and 99cent Plus Gallery.

Gerstley’s work is held in prominent private collections and has been featured in publications including Architectural Digest, Artforum, Curbed, Design Milk, Elle Decor Italia, Interior Design, Metropolis, Sight Unseen, and Surface. In fall 2026, his work will be included in Homo Faber: Island of Light in Venice.
